Working with Individuals and Families

At OptumHealth, wellness and recovery start and end with the individuals and families we serve. Their goals, their strengths, their insights into what works and what doesn’t—all of these are essential to developing a system of care that positively contributes to an individual’s wellbeing.

We engage and support consumers and family members from the earliest stages of system planning, to delivering services and quality review. Perhaps most important, we continually develop new ways to help engage, inform and empower individuals in pursuit of their own wellbeing, health and independence.

OptumHealth engages individuals and families by:

  • Expanding peer support and peer- and family-run services across the care spectrum, from health education to crisis respite
  • Recruiting consumers and family members for all positions, and building advocacy positions into the core structures and leadership of our local operations
  • Engaging advocates and peers in system change and quality improvement efforts
  • Delivering appropriate health, wellness and recovery tools online and in print, with an emphasis on peer-created content
  • Ensuring linguistically and culturally appropriate materials, outreach and support
  • Addressing all the core elements of wellness, including housing, employment, transportation and a full life within the community

In short, OptumHealth works with all stakeholders to ensure that system change accurately addresses the needs of the individuals and families served by the system of care.
