Approximately 48 million people have access to OptumHealth. As a result, we can offer deep discounts—averaging a 43 percent reduction off of billed charges. Our contracts are uniquely structured to control the payer’s financial exposure and cost variability due to complications and readmissions.
Case rates typically cover all transplant-related charges including evaluation, transplant (hospital, physician, organ), and 90 days of follow-up care. They also include a bank of inpatient days that may be used during the initial inpatient stay or anytime during the 90-day follow-up period. This contracting methodology helps ensure that more services will be paid at the case rate or fixed unit cost.
