GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. (April 23, 2009) — OptumHealth Inc. and UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company of New York announced today that the New York Office of the State Comptroller (OSC) has approved a five-year contract to administer the Empire Plan Mental Health and Substance Abuse Program awarded by the Department of Civil Service (DCS). OptumHealth and UnitedHealthcare began servicing the Empire Plan on Jan. 1, 2009, through a one-year single source contract that served as an interim measure while the comptroller completed his review of the five-year contract. The final contract was approved on March 27, 2009, and covers more than one million Empire Plan enrollees.
OptumHealth and UnitedHealthcare are providing Empire Plan enrollees with access to comprehensive mental health and substance abuse treatment solutions that include an extensive network of clinicians to provide easy access to high-quality treatment, online resources and intensive case management for high-risk individuals.
