OptumHealth Recognizes Nine Health Care Centers for Outstanding Care of Patients with Complex Medical Conditions

 Annual Client Choice Awards Presented to Centers for Their Excellence in Patient Communication, Administrative Ease and Lodging Assistance

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. (Dec. 30, 2008) — OptumHealth, Inc. today announced the recipients of its 2008 Client Choice Awards, which recognize the professional staff at medical centers who have shown superior clinical care and patient support while dealing with complex medical issues such as transplants, heart disease and cancer. For the past 10 years, the Client Choice Awards have honored centers that deal with such complex medical conditions.

Eligible participants are members of OptumHealth’s Centers of Excellence program, which aligns the right provider, right care, right medication and right lifestyle for consumers and helps them to make informed health decisions. Winners are selected based on survey responses from hundreds of case managers who describe their experiences working with the Centers of Excellence staff. Selection was based on how patients were treated in three areas:

  1. Patient Communication, or timely conveyance of patient updates to clinic staff and referring physicians
  2. Administrative Ease, for the ease of setting up appointments for evaluation, care and follow up for things like lab tests
  3. Lodging Assistance, for patients who need to travel away from their home in order to receive the best possible care for their specific condition

“We selected these award categories because they represent some of the most critical points of care for patients living with complex conditions such as cancer and heart disease, or patients in need of a transplant,” said Rob Webb, chief executive officer of OptumHealth Care Solutions, which oversees the Centers of Excellence program. “Congratulations to all of the winners of the Client Choice Awards for providing such a high level of quality care.”
