As general counsel for OptumHealth, Timothy Ryan oversees the delivery of legal services to the segment business leaders in a variety of areas impacting day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives, including transactional matters, regulatory interpretation and advice, licensing, litigation, product development and compliance. He is also responsible for the legal aspects of inter-segment relationships and issues management.

Prior to joining UnitedHealth Group in 1991, Ryan was an associate attorney in the health law department of McDermott, Will & Emery in Chicago. He began his legal career with Kitch, Drutchas, et.al. in Detroit.

Ryan earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Michigan and his law degree from Boston University Law School. He is a member of the State Bars of Michigan, Massachusetts, Illinois, Connecticut and Minnesota.
