As chief operating officer, John Prince is responsible for the business operations for OptumHealth, one of the nation’s largest health and well-being companies. A division of UnitedHealth Group, OptumHealth’s goal is to optimize health, well-being and financial security, while lowering benefit costs and helping consumers make informed decisions about their health through stand-alone or integrated services.
John also serves as acting chief executive officer for OptumHealth Specialty Benefits. In this role, he oversees and directs the operations of group and voluntary insurance products and services that benefit employers, their employees and associations. The company portfolio includes life, disability, dental, vision, stop loss, and critical illness insurance; leave management services; employee assistance programs; and worksite and association products.
Since 2005, Prince was the chief executive officer for UnitedHealth Group’s Exante Financial Services, where he helped the company become the pre-eminent health services banking company in America.
Prior to joining UnitedHealth Group, Prince served as senior vice president and head of health care business development and strategy at JPMorgan Chase, and was responsible for the financial products of more than 2,000 customers in the health care industry. Prior to his work at JPMorgan Chase, he spent 11 years at Arthur Andersen where he was a partner in the health care consultancy practice.
Prince holds an undergraduate degree in economics and mathematics from Northwestern University, as well as a Master of Business Administration degree from Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management.
