Harlan Levine, M.D.
Chief Medical Officer OptumHealth Care Solutions
In his role as lead clinician for OptumHealth Care Solutions, Dr. Levine drives innovative health care solutions that help enable people to get the right care, at the right time in the right place. He oversees clinical policy and health content for consumers, and works closely with health plan and employer customers.
Before joining OptumHealth, Dr. Levine held key physician leadership roles. At Salick Health Care, the first public disease management company, he was the executive vice president for business development, and became the president and chief executive officer of its technology and disease management subsidiary, Logic Health Systems (SalickNet), after its acquisition by Zeneca. At PacifiCare, he was a regional medical director for PacifiCare of California.
A strong industry advocate for transformative, innovative ways to help consumers get the care they need while improving affordability for health care purchasers, Dr. Levine is an ardent supporter of using technology to advance health care improvement. Today, Dr. Levine serves on the Board of Directors and the Government Affairs Committee of the Disease Management Association of America, and co-chairs the America’s Health Insurance Plan (AHIP) Cardiometabolic Risk Factor Reduction initiative.
Dr. Levine holds a B.A. in biology from Harvard College and an M.D. from the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine at Mount Zion Hospital and Medical Center in San Francisco, and his internal medicine residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles.
Dr. Levine is board certified in internal medicine and practiced in the Los Angeles area prior to entering health care administration. As a bit of interesting trivia, in the early 1980s, he served as a medical advisor to the then-popular L.A. Doctors television show.
