Chief Executive Officer, OptumHealth Behavioral Solutions
As chief executive officer for OptumHealth Behavioral Solutions, Andrew Sekel, Ph.D., oversees behavioral health and wellness clinical services that improve the overall health and well-being of individuals in the employer and health plan markets, as well as beneficiaries in Medicaid, Medicare, and other local, state and federal programs. These services include mental health and substance abuse full-care management, integrated employee assistance and work-life, disability solutions and consumer-driven behavioral health.
In addition, Dr. Sekel is responsible for defining and leading the public sector business strategy across all of OptumHealth, working closely with our businesses (Care Solutions, Financial Services and Specialty Benefits as well as Behavioral Solutions) on how to best leverage the full breadth of their capabilities in support of public sector agencies and health plans serving Medicaid, Medicare, state-funded, and federal beneficiaries.
Dr. Sekel has extensive experience in both the commercial and public sector health care markets. Prior to assuming his role with OptumHealth, he was Vice President of Business Development for the specialty division of Centene Corporation in St. Louis, Mo. In this position, he was responsible for designing and creating integrated health care delivery systems for large government-funded programs. Previously, he co-founded and led several behavioral health management companies in Texas and California, including Group Practice Affiliates, Integrated Mental Health, and Tejas Behavioral Health Services. As leader of these companies, Dr. Sekel created integrated health care programs, processes and initiatives that provided the highest quality care for patients.
Dr. Sekel earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, Master of Education degree in special education and Doctor of Philosophy degree in counseling psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. |
